Greg Blatt is a senior executive in the online dating industry. He has been the chief executive officer at three companies which are IAC, Tinder, Inc., and Match Group. Greg Blatt was Tinder´s CEO. At these latter two companies he was also the executive chairman of the board. When he took over at Match Group is was a small business. He built it into the global juggernaut that it is today.
He began his professional career as an attorney. After graduating from Columbia Law School in 1995, Greg Blatt joined the NYC law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. He later worked for Grubman Indursky Schindler PC. Both of these law firm’s business is providing legal advice for mergers & acquisitions. He didn’t really enjoy this type of legal work and so was looking to move on (Wallmine).
One of his clients at the time was Martha Stewart. She asked him to join her company as its general counsel. He took advantage of this opportunity and found that this type of work was much better than what he had been doing before. He worked at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia for four and a half years. Greg Blatt also recently joined her on her TV show where he demonstrated how he makes a fantastic margarita.
When George Blatt first joined the online dating industry it was far smaller than it is today. Once he got familiar with it he could see that the surface of this industry was barely being scratched. One way he grew the company was when Blatt launched Tinder Plus. This subscription-based service quickly exceeded a million users. Some people at Match Group wondered whether launching Tinder Plus was a good idea because they feared it would cannibalise from the company’s other apps. As it turns out those fears were unfounded as Greg Blatt knew they would be. Revenue at Match Group continued to go up instead of decline. Tinder Plus attracted new users who had never been on a dating app before.
