Salute to Recovery is a new program implemented by the Desert Hope Treatment Center, which is an American Addiction Centers treatment facility. Its goal and purpose is to provide treatment services for veterans who suffer from drug and alcohol-related issues as well as mental health conditions.

American Addiction Centers is a national organization that’s known for providing treatment for substance abuse including drug addiction, alcohol addiction, as well as mental health and behavioral health issues. It is also the only publicly traded company in the addiction treatment arena. They have a high success rate, double the national average, and have been featured in several national magazines such as Forbes, Fox News, Daily Mail, Bustle, and USA Today. In attempting to cure their patients of the perils of substance abuse, American Addiction Centers looks at several indicators of an individual’s propensity towards drug and alcohol addiction including their lifestyle, environment, health, and other mental health disorders that may be present.

A study done by American Addiction Centers indicates that of the returning service members who require mental health treatment, only about 50% ever actually seek such treatment. In 2016, more than 4 out of 5 vets claimed an inability to work due to being physically or mentally incapacitated due to their service in the military. Vietnam War veterans have been diagnosed with alcohol abuse disorders at a rate of between 60% and 80%.

The Salute to Recovery program teaches veterans skills on how to cope with the events that have led up to alcohol and drug abuse. Most of their sessions consist of group therapy with other veterans.

They learn several different types of therapy including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy which helps veterans to focus on their individual strengths which will thereby help to change their life’s narrative. A trauma therapy called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is also sometimes used.

Desert Hope Treatment Center has a large number of veterans on their staff. They are a designated Veterans Choice Provider, which allows Veterans to qualify for coverage of therapy services through the Veterans Administration.
